Mortise Statements

Privacy

Last updated: October 12, 2026

Mortise is a woodworking calculator and shop reference for iPhone made by Joshua Darling.

Mortise does not collect any data. The app has no accounts and no analytics. It doesn't track you, shows no ads, includes no third-party code, and makes no network connections.

Everything you enter, including calculator history, sled-squaring attempts, your settings, and choices such as your sales tax state, is stored only on your iPhone. It's included in your device's own backups (iCloud or computer) under your Apple account settings, and it's deleted when you delete the app.

Because no data leaves your device, there is nothing for us to share, sell, or delete on your behalf.

Terms of Use

Last updated: October 12, 2026

These terms cover your use of Mortise, an iPhone app made by Joshua Darling. By downloading or using Mortise, you agree to them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies. If the two conflict,

Apple's agreement controls.

Use the app as a guide, not a guarantee

Mortise gives calculations, layouts, and reference information about wood species and finishes. It's a tool to help you plan, not a substitute for your own judgment.

  • Check before you cut. Measure your stock, check results against your plans, and make a test cut on scrap. Wood moves, tools vary, and small input errors become big mistakes.

  • Reference data is general. Wood properties are published averages; individual boards vary. Finish and coating information is a summary, so follow the manufacturer's label and technical data sheet for the product you actually use, including for marine coatings.

  • Sales tax is an estimate. Rates are state averages from a public source as of the date shown. Your actual tax depends on where you buy.

Safety is your responsibility

Woodworking involves sharp tools, power machinery, dust, and chemicals that can cause serious injury. Mortise does not teach safe tool use. Follow your tools' manuals, use guards and protective equipment, and work within your experience. Read and follow the safety directions on every finish, solvent, and adhesive, and store oily rags safely; some can catch fire on their own.

No warranty

Mortise is provided "as is." To the fullest extent the law allows, we make no warranties, express or implied, that the app or its information is accurate, complete, or suitable for any purpose.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Joshua Darling is not liable for any injury, damage to materials or property, or other loss that results from using Mortise or relying on its information. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

Your purchase

Mortise is a one-time purchase through the App Store. Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies.

Changes

If these terms change, the updated version will be posted here with a new date. Continuing to use Mortise after a change means you accept the new terms.
